For clients using the Legience app on iPhone, and for law firms using Legience.
Questions About Your Case
Legience makes the software your law firm uses. We are not a law firm, and we can't answer questions about your matter or give legal advice. For anything about your case — documents, deadlines, appointments, bills, or what happens next — contact your law firm, or message your legal team in the app.
Please don't email us details about your case. If you write to us about the app, a short description of the problem is enough.
Using the Legience App
Getting access
The app is for clients whose law firm uses Legience, and your firm invites you by email. Open the invitation on your iPhone, tap the link (it opens in the Legience app or on our website), and choose your password. An invitation link works for 7 days; if yours has expired, ask your firm to send a new one.
Signing in and passwords
Sign in with the email address your firm invited and the password you chose. If you've forgotten your password, tap Email me a reset link at the bottom of the sign-in screen, and we'll email you a link to reset it. Once you're signed in, you can also reset it from Your details → Password. To open Your details, tap your initials at the top right of the screen, or tap More → Your details.
The app keeps you signed in on your iPhone, so you won't need your password each time you open it. You'll be asked to sign in again if you haven't used the app for 90 days, or after you sign out (on any device) or change your password. If you've turned on the Face ID or Touch ID lock, you'll unlock with it instead.
Face ID or Touch ID lock
Turn the lock on or off in Your details, under Sign-in & security. When it's on, the app locks each time it starts and whenever you come back after more than a minute away. It opens again with your face or fingerprint, or your iPhone's passcode.
Notifications
Turn on Push notifications in Your details. A notification says only what kind of thing is waiting, for example "New message from your legal team" or "Your legal team posted an update on your case", never a name or a case detail; open the app to see it. To turn notifications off, go to your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → Legience.
Sending documents, photos, and videos
From your iPhone you can send up to 50 MB at a time, for each file and for all the files in one send together. Send larger files, such as long videos, from Legience on a computer at app.legience.com, or split them across several sends.
Opening and signing documents
Documents open in your iPhone's own viewer, where you can also save, print, or share them. When your firm asks you to sign something, you'll find it in Documents, and you sign it right in the app.
"Update required"
If the app says an update is required, update Legience from the App Store to keep using it.
If something isn't working
Check your internet connection first: without one, the app may still show screens you've viewed since you last opened it, but it can't open documents or send anything. If the problem continues, email hello@legience.com with your iPhone model, its iOS version, and the app version shown at the bottom of Your details.
Deleting Your Account
In the app, open Your details, choose Delete your account, then confirm with Delete account. Your sign-in is deleted right away, you're signed out on every device, and we email you to confirm. Your firm keeps your case file and its own record of you, including how to reach you, as the law requires; ask your firm about anything in them.
If you can't use the app, email privacy@legience.com from the email address on your account and we'll delete it for you. Deleting the app from your iPhone doesn't delete your account.
